Banff, Alta. – On Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, Alberta RCMP Traffic Services made a significant drug seizure near Banff.
A traffic stop led the RCMP member to form grounds that the lone occupant of the vehicle was in possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 326 lb. of cannabis, 10 lb. of psilocybin mushrooms, 4.5 lb. of cannabis resin (shatter), 2 lb. of THC edibles and $11,000 in Canadian currency.
The cannabis seized in the stop would be enough to make over 440,000 average-sized joints. The mushrooms seized would roughly equate to 9,000 average doses.
“We remind Albertans that cannabis trafficking is illegal. The recent legalization of cannabis means that there are legal avenues to obtain and consume cannabis,” says Cpl. Kyle Maetche, Alberta RCMP Traffic Services. “I am very proud of the great team work and determination that our members display across the province to keep Albertans safe.”
Alberta RCMP Traffic Services go beyond promoting road safety through enforcement activities. The RCMP will continue to work very closely with our law enforcement and safety partners to keep traveling criminals off Alberta roads and to further reduce crime in Alberta.
