Mr. Fuzessy has an exceptional record of school and division leadership throughout his 26 years as an educator, during which he has worked as an educational assistant, teacher, principal, and administrator. Since August 2015, Mr. Fuzessy has held the position of Regional Director of Schools with the Lester B. Pearson School Board in Montreal, Quebec.
The Board of Trustees engaged a consultant to assist in the hiring process. Valued input from in-person and online engagement sessions with students, school communities, and staff was used to develop a superintendent profile. The Board was pleased with the number and quality of applicants who expressed interest in becoming the Superintendent for Foothills School Division.
Board Chair Larry Albrecht says “Mr. Fuzessy was selected from a field of truly outstanding candidates due to his demonstrated leadership capabilities, his commitment to excellence in serving our students and their families, and his experience developing initiatives aimed at enhancing student empowerment, high quality teaching, and learning. We believe that Mr. Fuzessy will guide and support Foothills School Division as we continue to be recognized as a leader in public education in Alberta.”
Throughout his time in education leadership, Mr. Fuzessy has come to be widely known as an educator who is consistently dedicated to the success and empowerment of all members of the school community.
“I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to serve as the Superintendent of Schools for Foothills School Division.” says Mr. Fuzessy. “In my previous roles I learned the importance of fostering and maintaining effective relationships, cultivating leadership at all levels, and engaging in lifelong learning. I understand firsthand the need to be innovative, strategic, reflective, and action oriented. I believe that strong professional relationships among students, staff, and families will continue to enhance Foothills School Division success.”
With a solid background in educational leadership, Mr. Fuzessy holds a Master of Arts, Educational Studies degree from Concordia University and a Doctorate of Philosophy, Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning from the University of Toronto, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.
Christopher will be joined by his wife Tracy and their three children. Anna-Claire will be commencing university this fall, Hailey Skye will be completing her final year of High School, and Briggs will be entering Grade 6. The family will be joined by their two dogs and two cats who most likely will not enjoy the drive to Alberta from Montreal.
