The Sustainable Black Diamond Advisory Committee is holding a Repair Cafe
The event will be held at the Griffiths Senior Centre at 102 Government Road in Black Diamond on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 1 to 4pm.
We throw away vast amounts of stuff, even things with almost nothing wrong. Most of these things can receive a new lease on life after a simple repair. The trouble is many of us have forgotten that we can repair things ourselves. Knowing how to make repairs is a skill, quickly lost, and just as quickly relearned with some guidance and a little time.
Repair Cafes are free drop-in places. In a Repair Cafe you will find tools and materials to help make any repairs you need. On clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery, appliances, toys, etc. You will also find expert volunteers, with repair skills in all kinds of fields.
Visitors bring broken items to the Repair Cafe and start making their repairs together with the specialists. It’s an ongoing learning process. If you have nothing to repair, you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. You can lend a hand with someone else’s repair job, learn from someone with knowledge about repairs or make the repair yourself with guidance. You can also get inspired at the reading table by leafing through books on repairs and DIY.
Join us for an enjoyable learning experience.
